Marines Detachment Consulate United States Brings Presents to Children

Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.-To celebrate the December holidays, the Consulate General of United States in Monterrey, led by the Consul General, Timothy Zuniga-Brown, joined the Marines Detachment for a collection toys among the American community and give children from DIF Santa Catarina on 18 December.

The «Toys for Tots» program (children’s toys) of the US Marine Corps, whose mission is to collect new toys each year and distribute them as Christmas gifts for less fortunate children in the community. The first program began in 1947 in Los Angeles, California. The foundation works with local organizations and this year, the beneficiaries were 163 children of Integral Family Development (DIF) Santa Catarina, the trails, Santa Catarina and Dolphins centers.

During the celebration, the US Consul General, Timothy Zuniga-Brown said: «The Consulate is proud to be part of the community of Santa Catarina since we moved here in 2014. As some may know the Marines of the United States everyone kept this tradition of supporting this program so I am very pleased to have taken the lead to join forces with staff Consulate and collect gifts for these small DIF. »

The event was also attended by the Mayor of Santa Catarina, Hector Castillo Olivares and his wife, Laura Castillo Vanegas, President of DIF Santa Catarina, and the Director of DIF Santa Catarina, David Rodriguez Castillon.

The gifts presented today are a symbol of hope and help to bring Christmas cheer to the most valuable resource, children. They also help to unite the members of the community in a common goal every year, improve the communities of the future.

The Consulate General of United States wants to take a moment to wish all our friends and partners a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2016.
