Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development ( USAID ) and CEMEX signed a cooperation agreement to improve the welfare and public safety, and promote a clean environment and sustainable development in Mexico. The agreement seeks to achieve these goals by supporting sustainable programs that help strengthen the restoration of vulnerable communities affected by crime and violence, and mitigate the effects of global climate change.
The agreement was driven with the support of Peaceful Coexistence Program (CCP), funded by USAID, which operates in three beds in Monterrey: The Alliance, New Almaguer and Independence.
As part of the firm also conducted the graduation of the second generation of project participants Youth Community Builders (donee organization PCC), which trains young people in the building trades and provides workshops life skills. Boys and girls shared experiences and testimonies obtained after learning that part of the program of Young Builders of polygons and Independence Alliance, Youth and project value Ashoka and FEMSA.
CEMEX visits offered facilities for its Production Center Self-Employment (CPA), where he trained in the precast concrete.
They participated in the event Tom Delaney, Director of USAID Mexico, Joseph M. Pomper , U.S. Consul General in Monterrey, Martha Patricia Herrera González, Director of Community Development Social Responsibility CEMEX, Francisco Almanza, Director of Youth Builders and Antonio Iskandar, Director of the Program for Peaceful Coexistence (PCC) of USAID.
During the ceremony:
§ 20 trainees of Phase 2 of the Community Builders Youth (JCC) in the polygon Independence which led to the formation process of the program graduated
§ CEMEX: acknowledgments youth graduating builders also completed the process of «YO I build Autoconstrucción School» program is delivered
§ Special recognition was given to the young builders of the polygon Alliance Phase 1 involved in social entrepreneurship program «Youth with value» of Ashoka and the company FEMSA, July-August 2013, and
§ The agreement between USAID and CEMEX was signed.
About the Program for Peaceful Coexistence (PCC) of USAID
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID for its acronym in English) works in partnership with the Government of Mexico in federal, state and local levels to implement crime prevention initiatives and violence.
The Program for Peaceful Coexistence (PCC) of USAID is part of the Government’s efforts in Mexico and the United States to mitigate the causes of violence and crime in the cities of Ciudad Juarez, Monterrey and Tijuana.
The PCC began operations in February 2012, with funding from USAID, and operated by the company Tetra Tech ARD. Its aim is to strengthen and promote resilient communities the ravages of crime and violence, through working together with the three levels of government, civil society and communities.
Additionally, the PCC provides support strengthening of the Secretariat for Prevention and Citizen Participation of the Ministry of Interior, specifically in regards to their capacities to design policies to prevent crime and violence, as well as knowledge management .
Firman Convenio de Cooperación USAID y Cemex.
La Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID) y CEMEX firmaron un convenio de cooperación para mejorar el bienestar y la seguridad ciudadana, y promover un medio ambiente limpio y sostenible en México.
El convenio busca alcanzar estos propósitos mediante el apoyo a programas sostenibles que contribuyan a fortalecer la restauración de comunidades vulnerables afectadas por la delincuencia y por la violencia, y a mitigar de los efectos del cambio climático global.
La firma del convenio fue impulsada con el apoyo del Programa para la Convivencia Ciudadana (PCC), financiado por USAID, que opera en tres polígonos de Monterrey: La Alianza, Nuevo Almaguer y La Independencia.
En el marco de la firma también se llevó a cabo la graduación de la segunda generación de participantes en el proyecto de Jóvenes Constructores de la Comunidad (organización donataria del PCC), que capacita a los jóvenes en el oficio de la construcción y brinda talleres de habilidades para la vida. Chicos y chicas compartieron experiencias y testimonios del aprendizaje que obtuvieron tras formar parte del programa de Jóvenes Constructores de los polígonos La Independencia y La Alianza, y del proyecto Jóvenes con Valor de Ashoka y FEMSA.
CEMEX ofreció visitas para conocer las instalaciones de su Centro Productivo de Autoempleo (CPA), donde se capacita en el prefabricado de concretos.

Pomper, Cónsul General de los EUA en Monterrey, Martha Patricia Herrera González, Directora de Responsabilidad Social Desarrollo Comunitario de CEMEX, Francisco Almanza, Director de Jóvenes Constructores, y Antonio Iskandar, Director del Programa para la Convivencia Ciudadana (PCC) de USAID.
Durante la ceremonia:
§ Se graduaron 20 becarios de la Fase 2 de Jóvenes Constructores de la Comunidad (JCC) en el polígono Independencia que concluyeron con el proceso formativo del programa
§ Se entregaron reconocimientos a los jóvenes constructores que además de graduarse finalizaron el proceso del programa “YO Construyo: Escuela de Autoconstrucción” de CEMEX
§ Se dio un reconocimiento especial a los jóvenes constructores del polígono La Alianza Fase 1 que participaron en el programa de emprendimiento social “Jóvenes con Valor” de la organización Ashoka y la empresa FEMSA, de julio a agosto de 2013, y
§ Se firmó el convenio entre USAID y CEMEX.
Sobre el Programa para la Convivencia Ciudadana (PCC) de USAID
La Agencia de los Estados Unidos para el Desarrollo Internacional (USAID por sus siglas en inglés) trabaja en asociación con el Gobierno de México en los niveles federal, estatal y municipal para instrumentar iniciativas de prevención del crimen y la violencia.
El Programa para la Convivencia Ciudadana (PCC) de USAID forma parte de los esfuerzos del Gobierno de México y del de los Estados Unidos para mitigar las causas que generan la violencia y el crimen en las ciudades de Ciudad Juárez, Monterrey y Tijuana.
El PCC inició operaciones en febrero de 2012, con financiamiento de USAID, y es operado por la empresa Tetra Tech ARD. Su objetivo es fortalecer y promover comunidades resilientes a los embates del crimen y la violencia, a través del trabajo en conjunto con los tres niveles del gobierno, la sociedad civil y las comunidades.
Adicionalmente, el PCC contempla apoyar el fortalecimiento de la Subsecretaría de Prevención y Participación Ciudadana, de la Secretaría de Gobernación, específicamente en lo que se refiere a sus capacidades de diseño de políticas de prevención del delito y la violencia, así como de gestión de conocimiento.
