Marines Detachment Consulate Bears Gifts to Local Children

Monterrey, Nuevo León, December 20, 2017 – To celebrate the Christmas festivities, the Consulate General of the United States in Monterrey joined his Detachment of Marines, for the fourth consecutive year, for a toy drive between the community consulate and give to the children of the community. In a potluck held on December 20 beneficiaries were more than 160 children from City of Children in the municipality of Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon.

Presented gifts are a symbol of hope and help to bring Christmas cheer to the most valuable resource, children. They also help to unite the members of the community in a common goal every year, improving communities of the future.

The event also participated Susana Duran Bremer and Olivia Uribe Santoyo, representatives of Children ‘s City and hosts the event.

During the ceremony on behalf of the Consul General, Ms. Myrna Ortiz-Kerr said: «As diplomats, not only work here but we live and we are part of this community. That’s why we like to be part of efforts of this nature that allow us to give back a little to the community. We wish you a Merry Christmas to all. »

The Toys for Tots program (children ‘s toys) of the US Marine Corps, whose mission is to collect new toys each year and distribute them as Christmas gifts for children in the community. The first program began in 1947 in Los Angeles, California.
